True enough. I think Greg Pahl's "Biodiesel; Growing a New Economy" lays it out nicely.

FWIW, Rudolphs early experiments were with compression ignition of coal dust. His background was in the practical science of refrigeration - cold from expansion. Working on the problems of the day, Diesel was surprised at the inefficiency of steam powered engines and set about to make a better engine using heat from compression. It was later in his life that he became an agrarian socialist, however, he always intended for his machine to be utilized for the benefit of agriculture.
Best,
-Patrick Kennedy

I'm a commercial fisherman who fishes albacore for a large portion of my income. Diesel is the largest expense for this fishery and is becoming larger. My pickup when I am ashore also runs on diesel. This year I plan to proccess a small amount of my catch myself. I would like any links or resources you have on effecient means to extract oil from fish, as I would like to start expirimenting with the possibility of manufacturing at least part of my own fuel. Any help would be appreciated.

Vegwerks Response: Yep, there's a lot of folks out there like you. That is exactly what this AEA grant is trying to help with, since I'm not aware of any easy answer.

Hi,
Read your article & I have to set U streight there is a retailer down in Kenai who sells Aternative Diesel Which is basicly
UMO that has been dewatered & filtered for about a $1.00 a gal. Email me 4 further detailes.

THX
Shawn

Vegwerks Response: Thanks Shawn, but UMO is "Used Motor Oil," and while it will burn in a diesel engine, it's not an approved fuel, and it's not biodiesel. :)
